Abstract

Alternative sources of electricity from renewable energy support the continuous electricity in tourism sites in rural areas. This study determined the impact of Sabang Renewable Energy Project (SREP) on the ecotourism business establishments in Sabang Wharf before and after installation of SREP. The perception of the respondents on the services provided by SREP, reported problems, and their suggestions was found out. The survey method using structured questionnaire to collect relevant data in this study was conducted. A complete enumeration of 31 respondents was utilized. Likert scale (five point) was used to quantify the perception of the respondents. Descriptive statistics (f, %, and M) were employed to analyze the gathered data. From the analysis, it revealed that SREP has a positive impact in terms of continuous supply of electricity, the voltage is sufficient for the appliances used in business establishments, additional days to launch their business, and lowered the electric bills. The problems and suggestions of the respondents are minimal in terms of immediate assistance in cases of trip-off. The suggestions focus on providing seminars about solar panels and how to fix minor technical problems. This study provides technical information on how the management of SREP, and other renewable energy projects will further enhance their services and will serve as source of information on the expansion of the project.
