HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGIES AND PROCESSES
The industrial and energy sectors are experiencing an important transition phase from fossil and renewable resources, with the aim to shift from a linear to a circular economy of production processes.
In this context, hydrogen is universally considered as one of the most interesting energy carriers.
It can be produced sustainably from water and used either as a direct energy source, or in mixture with other fuels, or as an important raw material in the chemical industry. Despite the great potential of hydrogen, it still presents numerous application problems that must be resolved before its large-scale use. Hydrogen produced from renewable materials is not yet cost competitive compared to its production from natural gas. Furthermore, it is necessary to evaluate application aspects related to safety, the compatibility of materials, its distribution and the optimization of traditional or innovative unit operations that involve its use such as fuel cells, electrocompressors, transportation, power to gas systems and others.
This Special Issue of Chemical Engineering Transactions covers the current progress and innovations on all the hydrogen-based technologies for its production, storage and uses. Articles with innovative researches and reviews with the critical analysis of the up-dated state of the art will be welcome. All the different topics in which sustainable hydrogen is a part of the process will be considered in the Special Issue, as hydrogen generation, storage, infrastructures, transportation, synthetic fuels, upgrading of oil and biomass, electrolysis, fuel cells, electrocompressors. X-to-hydrogen-to-X, hydrogen carrier, CCUS, liquefaction and compression.

This volume aims at presenting recent scientific and technical advances in various fields of Chemical Engineering: fuels and energy storage, separation processes, catalysis and biocatalysis, risk evaluation. This volume intends to attract readers from various sectors including but not limited to, academician, researchers, engineers and policymakers
