Vol 114 - Editorial
This volume elaborates on technologies and patterns – engineering, business and organisational, which can be used for improved sustainability contribution of process industries – including chemical, food and agriculture, as well as supply chain and regional symbiosis. These are important aspects of contemporary society and economy that have to be considered in integrated manner, to ensure maximum effectiveness in reduction of environmental impacts. A critical aspect is the realisation that Circular Economy approaches need serious evaluation to prove emission reduction and economic viability, since resource reuse and closing the cycles on material circulation also require the input of fresh resources and cause environmental footprints. The researched topics include Process Integration for sustainable development – including optimisation, integration of renewable resources of energy and materials. Transportation and logistics as well as the built environment are also key considerations. The Guest Editors believe that such an integrated approach offers an enriched scientific discourse accounting for the various dimensions of sustainability
