Energy is essential to drive industrial and residential processes, as well as entire economies. At the planetary level, all material streams form closed loops. These material cycles are not closed perfectly. The contents of the initial materials get misdirected and transformed by the supply chain activities, so the materials released into the environment cause pollution.
These patterns clearly show the main goals of Process Integration – for energy saving and pollution reduction. The topics considered include also optimal design and operaton of industrial and residential systems, including supply chains, energy storage, integration of renewables, Cleaner Production, Circular Economy, combined with sustainable waste and wastewater management.
